Science Fiction and Fantasy Archival Collections

 

Welcome! This wiki serves as a resource for information on the location of Science Fiction / Fantasy / Speculative Fiction archival collections, including the papers of SF writers and the records of SF organizations.  The goal of the wiki is to offer a succinct listing, organized alphabetically by author or organization, that will help researchers identify holding institutions and related resources (such as online finding aids and catalog records) for SF archival or manuscript collections.  The intention is not to duplicate the detailed information that exists on individual institutions' websites or in their catalogs, but rather to provide an easy-to-consult list of where SF papers are housed. In creating this wiki, we are greatly indebted to Hal Hall, whose Major Authors Library Collections Inventory (previous version available here at the Internet Archive) offers additional key information.

Wiki entries follow the format:

 

Author (LastName, FirstName) / Organization name.  Collection Name (with link to online finding aid or catalog record, where available).  Call Number.  Library Name,  Institution Name. Curatorial contact information, if no online finding aid or catalog information is available.

 

For example:

Wollheim, Donald A. Donald A. Wollheim Papers. MS 250. Kenneth Spencer Research Library, University of Kansas.

 

For authors with pseudonyms, create a main entry and then use "See" references to redirect to the main entry.

E.g. Dunsany, Lord [Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett]. Lord Dunsany CollectionCushing Memorial Library & Archives. Texas A&M University.

      Plunkett, Edward John Moreton Drax.  See Dunsany, Lord.

 

 

How to add an entry:

 

Since the wiki is collaboratively authored, we invite librarians to add their own institutional holdings.  You may do so by:

 

  1. Requesting permission to edit the workspace and then logging in (editing permission will be granted to librarians and archivists who wish to add information and links to their institutional holdings)
  2. Clicking on the wiki page to which you would like to add an entry
  3. Clicking on the "Edit" pane to contribute to particular wiki page (entries should be added alphabetically according to the writer's last name or organization name and follow the format suggested above
  4. Clicking "Save" at the bottom of the page to save one's changes

 

Please feel free to use the "Discussion" page to raise questions and issues pertaining to either the wiki or SF archival collections.
